I’m So Proud of You

Graduation from Charles Drew School of Medicine in 1998

Graduation from Charles Drew School of Medicine in 1998

I’m so proud of you Robert L. Jackson, II.

My genius of a brother lives and breathes Science. He received his BS in Chemical Engineering at Stanford, his MD from the Charles Drew School of Medicine/UCLA, completed his Post Doctoral Fellowship at UCLA in Medical Molecular Pharmacology, was 1 of 5 recipients of the prestigious Hoechst Scholarship in Neurology in 1997 and a gracious and humble 2nd year preceptor at the Charles Drew School of Medicine.

His areas of expertise, or rather hobbies, are:

  • Cheminformatics
  • Bioinformatics
  • Engineering
  • Math
  • Physics
  • Quantum Physics
  • Quantum Chemistry
  • Cell Biology
  • Molecular Biology
  • Genetics

He has struggled greatly these past 10 years. He’s survived non-publication, questionable treatment at the workplace, shattering depression and  breakdowns. We’ve fought tooth and nail with IP lawyers, employment lawyers and therapists against his demise. This afternoon I once again learned the importance of perseverance and persistence and the power of believing in oneself. After all of the horrific struggles and obstacles he’s faced, all he’s ever wanted to do is receive academic recognition for his work and, hopefully, contribute to the well-being of mankind.

Today, UCLA copyrighted 1 of his many inventions which he put forth for disclosure and publication 6 years ago. The claim back then was his invention couldn’t work and no one could understand it although several departments associated with the lab he worked in actively sought a collaboration with him on this very project. That was 6 years ago…

Here’s to my little brother and his High-Throughput In-silico Screening, Refinement, Organization & Classification (HISROC) invention which is designed to find bio-active agents effective against cancer cells with 95% accuracy…against all odds.

I’m so grateful that you’re still here and already working on the Next One…

Love,

Kristi

Happy and Pensive Martin Luther King Day!

This is what it is about…domestically and internationally.

The Shriver Report: A Woman’s Nation Changes Everything

I am absolutely ecstatic about the release of The Shriver Report. I am equally ecstatic that (MS)NBC is giving the issues that are being raised in this report their just due and significant airtime. Here is an executive summary of the report to help familiarize yourself with it before you begin to explore the website and its resources.

Furthermore, please click here to find informative and important links to upcoming live events, documentaries, charts and graphs as well as essays from OUR FRIENDS addressing various perspectives on women and poverty.

In order to give you a little more insight into what to expect from this report, this essay denotes one of my greatest concerns in regards to a comprehensive approach on the war on poverty and the war on women. We cannot eradicate poverty as long as religious leaders espouse and promote false and archaic belief systems that marginalize women. Those who do not believe that women can and should lead are fooling themselves and their constituency, costing us all. I am particularly adamant on holding religious leaders accountable as they have the power to effect positive change en masse and to reverse the evil that certain beliefs and dogma have wrought on womankind. As Sister Chittister so aptly prescribes:

“It is time for religions to repent the acceptance of assumptions about the social place and roles of women—assumptions that spring from theological definitions of women as less fully rational, less fully human, and less fully essential to the public arena than men.

It is time for religions to repair this distortion of the will of God. Like Galileo, it is time for both women and men to contest such untenable conclusions. For all of our sakes and for the sake of all humanity, it is time.” – Sister Joan Chittister

Policies and teachings that promote anything less than full equality in word, deed and access are inhumane and can neither be taken seriously nor should they be followed. People who do not promote the full equality of women are not operating from divine principles. They are operating from a malicious power principle whose sole purpose is to control and dehumanize human beings in the name of the divine. The effect of which is ungodly.

For the Ladies

aaa Vagina

We have withstood an onslaught on our beings by patriarchal systems and leaders for millennia. Our sense of self-worth has been defined by people who are either ignorant or afraid of womanhood. We have been programmed to turn this insidious hate on ourselves and other women through the validation of malicious rhetoric, policies and scripture and have allowed anti-female systems to perpetuate and flourish. We have, as a result, denied our own self-actualization by ceding control over our intellectual, emotional, physiological and spiritual well-being to people who want to keep us marginalized and disempowered.

In reading Vagina: Revised and Updated by Naomi Wolf, you will be given new and deep insights into yourself. An insight that will awaken you and lend you not only the tools and power to question patriarchal societies and systems but a foundation to realize who you are and who you are supposed to be. With no apologies…

Hip Hop Diplomacy

I refuse to pass judgment on anyone, specifically Dennis Rodman and friends, who believes that they can make a positive contribution to any group or society by sharing their gifts and talents with them. It stands to reason that when diplomacy has broken down or is at a still stand, you never know what might break the ice…

Compassionate CONservatism to the Rescue?

aa compassionate con

Compassionate CONservatism to the rescue as heralded by Paul Ryan’s Poverty Plan… That can never be as the terms and policies associated with this ideology actually create and maintain our poverty paradigm. It is compassionate in name only. Here’s a response I posted a few days ago to the misleading rhetoric and plans of this particular demagogue:

What is divine about any of these proposed policies especially when the very people who uphold the system which marginalizes & impoverishes the masses do so for their own personal gain? In the name of Jesus? Eye to eye and soul to soul… Where is your soul if you can rationalize, DESIGN and inflict cruelties which take food & shelter from those who can’t help themselves, Paul Ryan? Those who ascribe to this and similar beliefs have lost their way and are very very very far away from the nurturing Spirit.
