A Moving Evening On OWN: African-American Actresses in Hollywood & Dark Girls

a oprah

Thank YOU Oprah for providing us all with an entertaining, insightful and deeply moving evening last night with African-American Women in Hollywood and the world premiere of Dark Girls. Thank you.

For those who have not yet had the opportunity to see these two events which I am more than hopeful will promote honest soul searching as well as essential monologues and dialogues in many families, friendships and society-at-large, please take the time to do so.

Become aware of the beasts that have grown strong roots in societies around the globe. Their sole purpose is to denigrate and divide in order to turn groups of humans into “sub-humans”, namely racism and its cousin colorism. These pervasive villains of division are, unfortunately, very much alive and thriving in all of our cultures today. They have been effectively cultivated and disseminated in religious scripture, caste and other (il-)legalized slave systems for millennia. They are omnipresent and propagated in historical and current literature and film media, social policies, in board rooms and on the streets. As a result, they are ingrained within us consciously and subconsciously. See an excerpt from Dark Girls here.

Also, please take a moment to read the following response from Tika Sumpter to these positive contributions to society: Dark Girls: OWN Documentary Spotlights Skin Color.
