The Death Panels that Republicans had predicted would result from the Affordable Care Act are, in actuality, a result of not funding necessary programs such as Medicare fully. It is heart wrenching to know that the people in policy-influencing think tanks and in Congress who are making decisions have decided to use their power to push their non-compassionate and exclusionary agenda either to satisfy their own personal greed or due to palpable ignorance.
This negative development is only the tip of the iceberg of what will follow if sequestration is allowed to continue. Anyone who has ever thought that sequestration or slashing programs that are there to provide people with the most rudimentary safety net in existence in the developed world are the answer to America’s problems is standing on the wrong side of history. What good does any budget do you if you destroy your most precious resource: the people?
We are so far behind other developed nations in so many areas and falling further and further behind every day. We’ve been raised here with a warped social conscious that disenfranchises tens of millions of our most vulnerable but equally valuable citizens (children, the disabled, the elderly, the working poor, etc) by blindly pushing the “pull yourself up by your own bootstraps” motto and the belief that whatever ill fate that befalls them must be God’s will. I do not think that God and the Universe agree nor believe these are beliefs and ideals we should propagate or follow.
